“This NOFO will support attorneys who improve the quality of investigation and criminal prosecution of child abuse cases, including child physical abuse, child sexual abuse, technology-facilitated child exploitation, and child fatalities. Support will be provided to entry- level, mid-career, and seasoned prosecutors who prosecute child abuse cases in juvenile and adult courts on a variety of topics, including child interview techniques, thorough investigative methods, and effective presentation of evidence in court.
This program will address training needs related to the prosecution of child physical abuse, child sexual abuse and exploitation, technology-facilitated child exploitation, and child fatalities. It will cover a wide range of topics related to improving the investigation and prosecution of child abuse and neglect, including information regarding improved child interview techniques, thorough investigative methods, interagency coordination, and effective presentation of evidence in court. Training will also address more specialized topics, such as serial child torture, abusive head trauma, prosecution of abusive burn cases, drowned child cases, and hot car deaths.
Goal: Improve the quality of criminal investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases.
Objective 1: Develop and provide training and other resources (e.g. one-pagers, factsheets, briefing papers, and toolkits) to local and state prosecutors involved in child abuse cases to improve the quality of criminal prosecution of such cases.
Objective 2: Develop new publications and resources, as needed, that are responsive to emerging issues and case law for local and state prosecutors involved in child abuse cases to improve the quality of criminal prosecution of such cases.
Objective 3: Coordinate training and assistance with other OJJDP-funded VOCA programs to maximize efficient use of resources and avoid duplication of effort.”
