Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law
The Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law has released a three-volume report emphasizing the importance of federal government assistance for recently released prisoners with psychiatric disabilities. The report outlines the cost and societal benefits of aiding recently released prisoners. The benefits include a decrease in repeat incarcerations, homelessness and federal spending on jails.
Volume one details the necessity for programs and government assistance in helping prisoners with mental illnesses, outlining the benefits of having assistance programs and the detriments to not having them. Volume two lays out a blueprint for what types of programs should be implemented, who should implement them and how.
