“The purpose of the program is to support States and Tribes with implementing youth suicide prevention and early intervention strategies for individuals up to age 24. Your organization is expected to:
- Implement suicide risk screenings in schools, juvenile justice, foster care, and health systems and other child and youth-serving settings.
- Develop suicide risk response protocols.
- Provide resources to families and caregivers of youth at risk or who have attempted suicide.
- Strengthen community-based prevention, intervention, and postvention strategies.
With this program, SAMHSA aims to primarily support capacity building, early identification, referral, care coordination, continuity of care, training, and system-level improvements related to youth suicide prevention and early intervention.”

Eligibility: “Eligibility is statutorily limited to the following: (1) States, the District of Columbia, and territories (Guam, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau). (2) A public organization or private non-profit organization designated by a State or Indian Tribe (as defined in section 4 of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act) to develop or direct the State-sponsored statewide or Tribal youth suicide early intervention and prevention strategy. (3) A Federally recognized Indian Tribe or Tribal organization (as defined in the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act) or an urban Indian organization (as defined in the Indian Health Care Improvement Act) that is actively involved in the development and continuation of a Tribal youth suicide early intervention and prevention strategy.”
