“Effective community anti-drug coalitions help to establish and strengthen collaboration among communities and reduce substance abuse among youth. The organization undertaking this role would provide assistance in activities which involve training a diverse group of locally based participants in effective community problem-solving strategies by teaching them how to assess their local substance abuse-related problems and how to develop a comprehensive plan to address the problems. Coalition membership typically includes youth, parents, businesses, the media, schools, youth organizations, law enforcement, religious and fraternal organizations, civic groups, and local government. Coalitions host activities such as town hall meetings and youth summits on drug issues, local drug use surveys, youth leadership training, and social marketing campaigns with the aim to promote policy change.”
