Vivian Tseng, Ph.D. will be the new president and CEO of the Foundation for Child Development (FCD).

Tseng arrives at FCD after 18 years at the William T. Grant Foundation (WTGF). First hired as a postdoctoral fellow in 2004, Tseng would become a program officer after just two years and then senior program officer a few years later. Then, in 2011, she got the job as vice president of programs. She would serve in this position for more than five years before her final promotion to senior vice president of programs.

A champion of diversity at WTGF, Tseng is responsible for tripling the number of grantmaking projects led by people of color and creating new programs aimed at supporting researchers and nonprofit leaders of color and those from LGBTQ+ communities.

While her career is largely defined by her long stint at the WTGF, Tseng has served on the boards of several organizations alongside her foundation work. She served for more than nine years on the board of the Forum for Youth Investment and is currently on the board of Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP) since 2016. She is also a longtime and current board member of the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) and of Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR).

Tseng is a respected national figure and speaker in the philanthropic and research fields. She is known for founding Using Evidence for Change and co-founding the Transforming Evidence Funders Network.

“Dr. Tseng is an accomplished and highly regarded leader with deep experience in leveraging research to improve policy and practice. We value her track record of integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into programming, and her masterful skills at building strong relationships to increase impact,” said the Foundation’s Board Chair Melvin Ming in a press release about the selection. “She has what we need to propel the Foundation in its work to help young children and their families overcome harmful economic instability and social exclusion that limit their developmental potential.”

Vivian Tseng, Ph.D. will begin her work at FCD on Nov. 1, 2022, succeeding Dr. Jacqueline Jones.
