GRANT FOCUS: Youth Organizing, Youth Development, Youth Leadership, Social Change
Amount: Unspecified
Deadline: Ongoing
“We understand youth-led social change as a long-term process that builds the confidence, knowledge, skills, and collective leadership of young people while addressing the root causes of injustice and inequity in their lives and communities. Our grantmaking programs are designed to support organizations centering youth voice to implement social justice though youth leadership and youth organizing practices.
We provide funding opportunities to organizations of various sizes and believe in supporting work led by community leaders. The organizations we support must engage young people between the ages of 13-24. Grants Programs:
- Youth Organizing: We believe youth organizing is an effective strategy for creating transformative change in both individuals and communities. Our Youth Organizing grant program supports groups and organizations working on a wide range of issues that are defined and prioritized by their youth members and leaders.
- Critically Conscious Youth Development: Critical Consciousness is the ability to recognize and analyze systems of inequality and develop a critical lens to navigate and challenge these systems. This is a core component of the way youth organizing is approached yet it is a core competency missing in many youth development programs. We see this as a long-term process that plays a fundamental (though seldom recognized) role in supporting youth’s meaningful growth, development and success.
- Intermediary Supports: Our Intermediary grant program provides support to nonprofit organizations that play a critical role in strengthening the capacity of youth-led social change efforts across the state of Connecticut. For the purposes of this grant program, PFF defines an “intermediary” as an organization providing services, training, or expertise that strengthens the knowledge, skills, infrastructure or collaborative efforts of the youth-led social change field.
- Mini-Grants: PFF offers supplemental capacity building support to grantee partners through our minigrant opportunities.”
Funder: The Perrin Family Foundation (PFF)
Eligibility: “We fund organizations with independent 501(c)(3) status or groups that are fiscally sponsored by a tax-exempt organization. Preference is given to small, nascent, and/or grassroots organizations.” Organizations must be working in Connecticut.
