Child Welfare

Cheryl Wetzstein of the Washington Times reports on research by the American Values’ Center for Marriage and Families that says cohabiting couples pose instability and risk for children.

Los Angeles County is refusing to turn over records involving the deaths of children under supervision of its child welfare agency despite a warning from the state’s auditor, reports Garrett Therolf of the LA Times.

Catholic Charities will have to wait a while longer to learn if the organization will be allowed to keep its state contracts for adoptive and foster care services, reports Doug Finke of MySuburbanLife.com.

Juvenile Justice

Disgraced judge Mark Ciavarella, a key figure in the Luzerne County, Pa. juvenile court scandal, is pleading pauper and appealing his conviction, reports Terrie Morgan-Besecker of the Times Leader.
