Assistant/Associate Agent, 4-H Youth Development

Nature and Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of the Extension Agent, 4-H Youth Development, is to deliver research-based, objective, non-formal educational opportunities to Arizona youth and families, in order to develop STEM skills, leadership and citizenship, and promote healthy lifestyles and healthy communities. The goal is to help all youth be college or career ready. This position provides youth in the county with non-formal educational opportunities designed to help them develop into useful and contributing citizens of a democratic society. The Agent develops, conducts, and evaluates educational programs which address priority needs of the county, state, and nation. The program assists adults and families by building coalitions with community groups, agencies, and other organizations.
Position responsibilities will require teamwork, strong interpersonal and communication skills, leadership abilities, ability to manage conflict, innovative approaches to programming, and dedication to the needs and interests of youth. The 4-H Youth Development Agent has the responsibility of cooperating with other Gila County faculty and staff to deliver programs using a team approach. The Agent will also assist in designing and delivering youth centered programs. The agent will also be expected to recruit, train, orient and support 4-H volunteers to lead a wide variety of programs.
The job of Extension Agent requires the Agent to be a self-starter and work independently with minimal supervision. The Agent needs to understand and implement creative methods of teaching for both adult and youth (5-19 years) audiences.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a discipline essential to the specific assignment, (for example, Animal Science, Agricultural Education, Youth Development, or Natural Resources) is required.
- Teaching and volunteer management experience, formal or informal, is required.
