“This NOFO will provide funding to develop or expand programs in juvenile and adult detention or correctional facilities to respond to the needs of incarcerated parents and their children to reduce the likelihood of antisocial behaviors, future involvement in the juvenile justice system, and recidivism; and support responsible parenting that leads to healthy child development, resiliency, and improved interactions among incarcerated parents and their minor children, family, and community members. The term “parent” extends to a legal guardian, caregiver, or persons with a strong familial bond with a minor. Program activities could include but are not limited to:

  • Training for correctional officers, including safeguarding children and families visiting incarcerated parents.
  • Providing services that meet the needs of children of incarcerated parents and foster positive youth development.
  • Providing reentry and transitional services for eligible incarcerated parents that focus on parental responsibility.”

Eligibility:
City or township governments, county governments, state governments, Native American tribal governments (federally recognized), other units of local government (towns, boroughs, parishes, villages, or other general purpose political subdivisions of a state).
