Daniel Shoy, Jr. is the new managing director of youth development at The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation.

Shoy previously worked for the foundation for nearly ten years as a senior program officer focused on education and youth development. He left in the summer of 2010 to take the job as deputy executive director of the East Lake Foundation.

Rising through the ranks, Shoy became chief operating officer after less than three years and eventually president and CEO. He has now led the East Lake Foundation for more than eight years, helping to revitalize Atlanta’s East Lake community.

Now Shoy will refocus his efforts more broadly around Atlanta, returning to the Blank Family Foundation to spearhead youth development programs across the city and its metro area.

Before his first stint at the Blank Family Foundation, Shoy held numerous short term positions in the sector. He started as a corps member at the Outward Bound Atlanta working on community environmental service and education projects. Soon he became an AmeriCorps team leader, leading community service teams aiding Atlanta public schools.

Shoy would then move on to Hands On Atlanta, a community mobilization nonprofit organization, where he worked for only six months before the opportunity to join the Blank Family Foundation came along. In January of 2001, he joined the Blank Family Foundation as senior program officer. During his first stint at the foundation, he also served as chairman of the Hull Fellows Committee at the Southeastern Council of Foundations and sat on the board of Grantmakers for Education.

Shoy holds a bachelor’s degree in history and psychology from Emory University and was named an Emory College Distinguished Alumni in 2013.

“I am grateful for the many lessons I’ve learned by working closely with youth and families in community over three decades, especially in Atlanta’s East Lake neighborhood for the past 12 years,” said Shoy in a news release about the appointment. “I am excited to rejoin the Blank Family Foundation team because of its enduring commitment to youth development with a bold new focus and its attention to equitable opportunity for youth far from it.”

Daniel Shoy, Jr. begins work as managing director of youth development at the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation on Feb. 14, 2022.
