“For 70 years, we have shown our commitment to improving total community health through a variety of grants for charitable and community-based organizations. Successful grant applicants fit within our funding priorities with work that responds to identified health needs in the communities that Kaiser Permanente serves. Most of the grantmaking in the below areas happens at the local and regional levels. National grants most often support policy, advocacy and technical assistance. We are particularly interested in having applicants discuss how their work in these areas includes the social determinants of health and addresses the elimination of health disparities and inequities.
- Community Health Initiatives – We support innovative efforts to increase nutritious foods, physical activity, economic vitality, safety and wellness in local schools, workplaces and neighborhoods… Community Health Initiatives takes a prevention-driven approach to health, supporting policies and environmental changes that promote healthy eating and active living (often referred to as HEAL) in neighborhoods, schools and workplaces
- Safety Net Partnerships – Kaiser Permanente is committed to building partnerships with the institutions that serve on the front lines of health care for the uninsured and underserved. By providing support to community health centers, public hospitals, local health departments and school health centers, Kaiser Permanente helps these safety net institutions deliver care to many low-income and marginalized communities.
- Subsidized Care and Coverage – Improving health care access for those with limited incomes and resources is fundamental to our mission. For many low-income people without medical insurance or for those who lose their jobs and are unable to maintain health care coverage, an emergency room is often the only place they receive the care they need. We’re working to change that with programs that lower financial barriers, provide free or deeply subsidized health coverage and improve access to public health care programs. In addition to helping individuals qualify for state or federal insurance programs, like Medicaid, we help people subsidize coverage and provide Medical Financial Assistance to access care, at low or no cost.”
