Preventing Child Maltreatment

Princeton University/The Brookings Institution

The fall 2009 entry in The Future of Children journal series explores the prevention of child maltreatment through various strategies, including home visitation (see “How To” in this issue), drug treatment, parent training, “community responsibility,” sex offender management (such as public registries) and child protection systems. Authors analyze research about the effectiveness of such approaches, straightforwardly explaining where the evidence is strong and where it is not.
