David Daniels has been promoted to the position of chief operating officer (COO) at the Maryland-based Bainum Family Foundation (BFF), which focuses its mission on the support of educational and developmental programs for underserved children and youth. Daniels has been with BFF for more than six years, serving as vice president of operations and organizational effectiveness for the past 18 months. He was first hired in 2012 as director of BFF’s boarding and day school program. Daniels served in this position for three years before moving up to the position of senior director of program operations. A little over a year later he became the foundation’s senior director of all operations. His career prior to BFF was in school administration.

After graduating from Columbia Union College with a bachelor’s degree in counseling psychology, Daniels took a job as a school administrator at Liberty Christian Academy in Columbus, Ohio — ultimately serving in this position for five years. During this time he attended Franklin University and completed a master of business administration degree in finance. He soon moved to Mount Vernon, Ohio to be an administrator at Mount Vernon Academy for another five years. Then, with ten years of administration experience and a master’s degree under his belt, Daniels got his first leadership position as principal of Takoma Academy in Maryland. It was after three years in this position that he was first hired by BFF and began his climb to the top of the foundation.

His success has not lessened his motivation as he is also currently pursuing a doctorate in business administration at Wilmington University — on track to complete the program next year. Daniels is a member of the Association of Black Foundation Executives as well as the Association of Baltimore Area Grantmakers. He also serves on the board of directors at Pine Forge Academy.

“David’s commitment to both our mission and culture is evident in everything he does,” said Barbara Bainum, chair of the board, CEO and president of the foundation in a press release about the promotion. “From spearheading our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative, to the way he leads and inspires his teams, to his commitment to his own continued growth as a leader, he is an invaluable asset to our organization. I know this from my close work with him, but I also hear this sentiment consistently echoed by our staff and partners.”

David Daniels assumed the responsibilities of chief operating officer of the Bainum Family Foundation effective Oct. 1, 2018.
