100 Best Communities for Young People

America’s Promise

There are 30 new names among America’s Promise Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young People of 2010, which the organization announced Tuesday.

Pascagoula, Miss., Sarasota County, Fla., and Barren County, Ky., joined two-time winner Missoula, Mont., three-time winner New York City and four-time winner Grand Forks, N.D.

The competition, started in 2005, is part of the alliance’s Grad Nation campaign to combat the high school dropout problem. More than 350 communities nominated themselves for the list this year, with the final 100 chosen by a panel of judges that included well-known civic, business and nonprofit leaders such as William Bell, CEO of Casey Family Programs, and Javier Palomarez, CEO of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
