The Adams Mark Hotel chain has agreed to pay a total of $1.1 million to black guests and several black colleges to settle a discrimination lawsuit that prompted a boycott by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. The suit charged that during a 1999 black college reunion in Daytona Beach, Fla., staff at an Adam’s Mark hotel discriminated against black youths by, among other things, charging exorbitant room fees and conducting inappropriate searches of possessions.
