“First Nations recognizes that tribes, Native nonprofits, and Native groups are pushed to the limit, in terms of their budgets, demands on staff, and resources overall. Indigenous communities have continued to face and respond to COVID-19 despite these challenges. First Nations will ensure that Native nonprofits and tribal programs have resources for longer-term recovery related to pandemic response. Focuses include providing general support for Native-led programs, assisting with virtual operations and PPE to keep staff and constituents safe, and helping Native youth and elders cope with the mental health effects of COVID-19.
With the generous support of the May & Stanley Smith Charitable Trust, First Nations will establish a Western COVID-19 Response Grant that will provide support to one or more of the Trust’s focus populations including elders, military veterans, individuals with a disability who are transitioning to live independently, and/or children in foster care. Additionally, all grantees are to be located in the Western United States.”

Eligibility: “Federal- and State-Recognized Tribal Governments (Tribal Government Programs, such as Tribal Arts Programs, Heritage Departments, and Economic Development Entities), Native-controlled 501(c)(3) nonprofits, Native-controlled community organizations with fiscal sponsorship, Native 7871 Organizations. Applicants must be located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming.”
