“The Equity Fund grant program strengthens lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) organizations and supports projects that serve the LGBTQ+ community in Maine.
- General support grants for organizations for flexible funding of any type such as new/expanding/ongoing programs and operational needs including capital expenses. To apply for a general support grant, an organization must:
- Be LGBTQ+ focused, defined as 80% or more of the population served
- Be LGBTQ+ led, defined as serving as board and staff for the organization
- Have previously received an Equity Fund project grant
- Project grants for new or expanded projects that serve the LGBTQ+ community in Maine. Projects are activities with a clear start and end date, with goals and objectives related to but different from the organization’s mission. Project grants may support staff time dedicated to supporting proposed activities and may include administrative overhead, up to 20% of the requested funding. To apply for a project grant, the project must:
- Serve LGBTQ+ people in Maine as the primary recipients AND/OR
- Involve LGBTQ+ people in Maine in the design, delivery, and evaluation of the project.
Priority will be given to proposals that: Address the needs of an underserved geography or population. | Increase access to health care or reduce health disparities. | Reduce violence and/or harassment. | Promote respect and understanding.

Eligibility: “Nonprofit, charitable organizations tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRC and also classified as an organization described in sections 509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2), municipalities, public schools, public agencies working for the State of Maine, Indian tribal governments (or political subdivisions) recognized by the Department of the Interior, groups without any tax status may apply with a fiscal sponsor that is an eligible organization as described above.”
