Education Leadership Diversification Program Grants

Subject: Education, Diversity, Education Policy, Minority Students
Deadline: Sept. 15, 2017

“We believe education organizations will have greater impact when their leaders understand the values, experiences and needs of the students and families they serve. Diversifying education leadership is key to this goal. The percentage of Black and Latino leaders in education, as compared to the percentage of Black and Latino students in our nation’s schools, remains unbalanced. This is especially troubling as the number of children of color in our public school system continues to climb. We must diversify education leadership to include more people who share the background and life experience of the students we serve. And we must harness the richness of diverse leaders’ ideas and perspectives for the benefit of all students.

We invest in entrepreneurs with ambitious ideas focused on advancing Black and Latino leadership in education. We are open to a broad range of approaches, including efforts to recruit, place, develop and retain diverse leaders in a range of education roles. And we are interested in ideas that will have field-level impact over time.”

Funder: NewSchools Venture Fund
Eligibility: Nonprofit organizations and individual social entrepreneurs. “While we prioritize investing in early-stage ventures (0 to 2 years of development), we will also consider investing in new initiatives at existing organizations. In addition, all ventures must align with NewSchools’ overarching investment criteria. Given our strategic focus, we especially encourage Black and Latino entrepreneurs to participate in our funding opportunities.”
