OJJDP to Take Bids on Stimulus Mentoring Money

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention is currently developing a solicitation for proposals to spend local mentoring funds carved out in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. There must be a primary applicant on each solicitation (it can be a public or private entity), but demonstration of a community partnership arrangement is required.

That is all for now; no deadline, total pot of money or maximum award is not listed yet. The program managers in charge are Kerri Strug (yes, that Kerri Strug) and Gwendolyn Williams.

As far as OJJDP money is concerned, this is the best chance for a mom-and-pop mentoring program to get funded. Much of the regularly appropriated juvenile mentoring money ($82 million for 2009) will go to the likes of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
