“The Childrens Theatre Foundation of America (CTFA) challenges and supports theatre artists to achieve excellence and equity in service to young people. A major priority of CTFA is supporting theatre for youth which clearly recognizes that diversity, equity, and inclusion are important to the future of theatre for young audiences and to society in general. The Founders Grant committee is seeking projects from 501c3 IRS certified not-for-profit theatres in the United States that encourage and support the development of innovative production concepts and approaches to theatre for young audiences. This year, we are expanding to include projects that explore new organizational models to enable theatres to meet current challenges.
CTFA understands that the time to develop new ideas needs an underwriter. In addition to supporting theatres developing new work, we are also offering funding to theatres who are looking at ways of redesigning their own organizational structures and considering ways of adapting to meet their current needs. In 2025, the Founders Grant committee will award multiple theatre grants between $3,000 and $6,000 to support the creative process needed to develop innovation both in programming and in organizational structures.”

Eligibility: “501(c)(3) IRS certified not-for-profit theatres in the United States. Theatres must (1) have been certified as a nonprofit for at least three consecutive years, (2) have an annual operating budget over one million dollars, (3) have a demonstrable record of artistic quality, and (4) provide a one-to-one funding match (which can include in-kind salaries and services only if they are related to the project being proposed).”
