Update: CSJ Raises $61,720 in NewsMatch, National Campaign That Doubles Gifts

The Center for Sustainable Journalism (CSJ) tripled the amount of donations it received in NewsMatch 2018, compared to 2017. With $61,720 raised during this double donation campaign from 179 total donors, the program was a success for the CSJ, publisher of Youth Today and the Juvenile Justice Information Exchange, and its mission to produce sustainable, high-quality, ethically sound journalism, especially in youth public affairs areas neglected by the mainstream media.

NewsMatch, which raised a record $7.6 million for 154 nonprofit newsrooms from 240,000 individual donors between November and December 2018, was launched in 2016 by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. In 2018, NewsMatch helped further cultivate local philanthropy by providing an opportunity for newsrooms to secure $675,000 in additional matching commitments, like the $5,800 match the CSJ received from the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation.

The CSJ more than doubled its donations from 2017, adding 153 new donors. NewsMatch saw an increase in its overall numbers from 2017 as well, with a 58 percent increase in dollars raised for newsrooms across 42 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.
