Last week, we alerted you to AmeriCorps funding possibilities for youth organizations, but cautioned that the Corporation for National and Community Service will soon announce changes to its grant programs following passage of Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act. And so it did: in the corporation’s recently released notice for $363 million in new, competing and continuation grants across several programs, “begins the process of implementing this Act,” officials said.
A 10-page fiscal 2010 program announcement, which outlines eligibility rules and priority areas, alludes to some of the program alterations stemming from the act, not all of which are fully developed. These include new national performance measures that CNCS is to design and use to discern the impact of AmeriCorps, but which will be optional for 2010 applicants. Another new development in 2010 is the fixed-amount grant, which is available to programs that enroll full-time AmeriCorps members.
Proposals are due in January and awards will be made in June.
