This winner of UNICEF’s video contest for young people marks the 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. All one-minute submissions expressed one or more of these human rights in this international treaty: the right to survival; to develop to the fullest; to protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation; and to participate fully in family, cultural and social life.
“The Classroom,” the winning entry by Sonu Thakur of West Bengal, India, shows a girl standing at a window, peering into a classroom. Invited inside by the teacher, the girl sits alone on the classroom floor struggling through her workbook.
