Almost 7,000 teenagers become sexually active every day, and with that comes an increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases, lower academic achievement and teen pregnancy. The Heritage Foundation, a conservative nonprofit think tank, released a paper that discusses 21 studies of abstinence education. Of them Heritage says, 16 showed statistically significant positive results. The report states that the government implicitly supports casual sex through its safe-sex programs, which receive 12 times more funding than abstinence education programs. The report recommends that the government implement more abstinence education programs, stating that they are “crucial to the physical and psycho-emotional well-being of the nation’s youth.” Free online.
