“Our current healthcare, education and early learning systems are not meeting the needs of all our children and communities. Each of these sectors is critical for long-term success. None acts on its own. All the data tells us that improving health in children can improve early learning and educational outcomes, and improving education leads to better long-term health. Ultimately, we know that the best solutions to these problems can be found in community wisdom. Northwest Health Foundation, along with the Health and Education Fund partners, is investing in efforts to support parent, family and community leadership and engagement to improve outcomes in early learning, education and healthcare for children by addressing change at the intersection of these sectors.
We dedicate ourselves to ensuring our investments support:
- Whole families: When we reference a child, we also talk about their parents, family and community.
- Opportunity communities: When thinking about communities most affected by economic disparity, historical oppression and inequities, we consider the full context, and we always put strengths and possibilities first.
- Enduring change: In order to address inequities and support long-lasting change, we take equity, policies and systems, replicability, scalability and sustainability into account. We seek to address root causes and commit to acting with, and following the lead of, communities, rather than doing things for or to communities.”
