Catholic Church
A John Jay College study found 4,392 priests and deacons accused of abuse from 1950 through 2002. Files on 3,764 priests and deacons accused of sex abuse (some discovered since the John Jay study) are publicly available at www.bishop-accountability.org.
USA Swimming
The national governing body for competitive swimming in the United States posts online the names of those it has banned for life for violating its codes of conduct. Most of the 64 people now listed are coaches and officials who were accused of sexual offenses against youths. The list includes categories of offenses for each person but no details about the incidents.
USA Gymnastics
The national governing body for competitive gymnastics in the United States posts online the names of those it has banned for violating its codes of conduct. Most are coaches. The violations are usually not listed.
USA Figure Skating
The national governing body for competitive figure skating in the United States posts online the names of those it has banned and suspended for violating its codes of conduct. The list specifies the sections of its code or of state laws that that person violated, but usually do not describe the offense; that can be determined by looking up the section of code or law.
Public Schools
A report done for the U.S. Department of Education in 2004 estimated that “more than 4.5 million students are subject to sexual misconduct by an employee of a school sometime between kindergarten and 12th grade.” An Associated Press investigation found at least 1,801 educators “whose teaching credentials were revoked, denied, surrendered or sanctioned” for alleged sexual misconduct with youth (mostly students) from 2001 through 2005.
Some states, such as Florida and Ohio, have created online databases of educators who have been disciplined for misconduct, searchable by name.
Scouts Canada
An independent study released in June found 468 people banned for alleged “sexual misconduct against youth” from 1947 to 2011.
