Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize

For: Individuals whose scientific research makes ground-breaking contributions to the youth development field.

Winner: Laurence Steinberg, professor at Temple University in Philadelphia and chairman of the National Academies’ Committee on the Science of Adolescence, for his research on juvenile justice issues and his involvement in legal policy and practice.

Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year

For: Young professionals in the nonprofit sector for their leadership and contributions to the workforce.

Maya Enista, Young Nonprofit Professional of the Year.

Winner: Maya Enista, president and CEO of http://Mobilize.org, for her public service and youth empowerment organizing, including the campaign “Party for the Presidency,” a convention that brought together young people, elected officials and political candidates from around the country.

Alliance for Children and Families Agency of the Year

For: Alliance member agencies for their accomplishments in leadership and management, board participation and support, impact of advocacy efforts on local, state and national levels and innovative programs.

Winners: The Children’s Village, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., in the $15 million and over personnel budget category; Chaddock, Quincy, Ill. In the $6 million to $15 million personnel budget category; Family Service Centers in Clearwater, Fla., in the $6 million or below personnel budget category.

Golden Beacon and Beacon Awards

For: Golden Beacon: Communications or public affairs initiative that has made a significant impact on the cable industry; ACC Community Bridges Award: Outstanding partners outside of the cable industry; ESPN Good Sport Award: Project that generates community involvement through education and athletics; and the Joel A. Berger Award: A cable industry public affairs campaign that facilitates AIDS awareness.

Winners include: Golden Beacon: Nickelodeon’s “The Big Green Help”; ACC Community Bridges Award: Afterschool Alliance, for its public service announcement campaigns for after-school programs for children; ESPN Good Sport Award: Cox Communications in Florida, for its initiative “The Negro League Baseball Project”; and Joel A. Berger Award: MTV, for its initiative “GYT: Get Yourself Tested.”
