Building on Strength: Positive Youth Development in Juvenile Justice Programs

Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago

This study of six juvenile justice programs describes the factors that facilitate the adoption of positive youth-development principles in a juvenile justice context.

It includes summary descriptions of the strength-based principles implemented by managers and practitioners, documents how such reforms took place and notes whether they produced effective results for youth, families and communities. The authors extract common themes relevant to programs that want to adopt a positive approach when working with youthful offenders. Free, 66 pages.
