Since 2004, teens in the Hub neighborhood of Boston have been murdered at the rate of 18 a year – leaving law enforcement scrambling and youth “shell-shocked,” according to this investigative report in The Boston Herald. Recent victims have been as young as 13.
Data compiled by the newspaper for the past 10 years show that, on average, one Boston teen is killed each month. The paper’s analysis also found that police identify suspects only one-third of the time when the victim is a black teen, compared with 50 percent of Hispanic teen victims and 71 percent of whites.
