Each day about 26,000 children under age 5, most of whom live in developing regions, die from preventable causes. UNICEF is striving to reduce those deaths by two-thirds by 2015, which would lower the total to around 4 million a year. That would require increased community health initiatives in the most desperate regions, such as Sub-Saharan Africa and West/Central Africa.
