The FTC’s latest report to Congress gives the movie, music and video-game industries a mixed review for their self-regulatory practices and marketing of violent entertainment products to children. In its fifth follow-up report on media violence – said to be the most comprehensive since 2000 – the FTC finds that while all three industries generally comply with their own voluntary standards regarding the display of ratings and labels, they continue to market R-rated movies, M-rated video games and explicit-content recordings on television shows and websites that have substantial teen audiences.
