Some Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) grantees are having a tough time with their finances but aren’t getting the help they need to comply with federal financial management regulations, reports Youth Today’s Nancy Lewis. A new Office of Inspector General report, Lewis writes, finds that the agency isn’t scrutinizing all grantee paperwork closely, and has many of the same financial management problems identified years ago. Another article reported by Lewis found additional woes at the corporation, which provides more than $1 billion annually for community service volunteers and projects, including employees unqualified for jobs and lack of information-technology planning.
