Youth involved in the juvenile justice system are a target audience for recently awarded grants that will fund live performances of Shakespeare before middle and high school audiences around the country starting next month, the National Endowment for the Arts has announced. Six of the 37 nonprofit professional theater companies receiving $25,000 grants under the Shakespeare for a New Generation initiative received additional awards ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 as part of a partnership with the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. That money, provided by the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, supports performances and educational services for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
