The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) last month began implementing a new process for announcing funding availability.
The agency has streamlined its process for notifying potential grantees by developing four standard grant announcements that cover the major areas of SAMHSA grant-making: services, infrastructure, service-to-service, and best practices planning and implementation.
The new system replaces one in which each funding availability notice included a detailed request for applications. Now, a short document called a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) will be attached to one of the four general grant announcements.
Each NOFA will inform candidates of the expected size and number of grant awards, the deadline and other requirements.
