Beyond Access: A Foundation Guide to Ending the Organizational Divide

National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy

While foundation grant-making for information technology (IT) continues to grow, strategies for improving the distribution and effectiveness of that money need to be considered, according to this report. Researchers found that a relatively low amount of IT funding was going to direct-service groups, and that costs of training and maintenance of equipment were drastically underestimated by agency management. Report writer Bethany Robertson’s recommendations include creating a uniform grant application guideline that would lay out all IT needs, loosening the conditions on IT grants and promoting more information-sharing efforts among nonprofits. 37 pages. $25.
