Youth Today’s Federal Youth Earmarks
Since fiscal 2001, Youth Today has been building databases of youth-related earmarks in each year’s federal budget. Those databases are available in searchable and sortable form to Youth Today subscribers.
There is no database for fiscal 2007, when the federal government had a moratorium on virtually all earmarks.
How to Use the Databases
The databases are in Excel. The listings are organized by state, and then alphabetically.
To search the database using other criteria, simply select “Data” on the top of the spreadsheet and select “Sort.” You will find a box that allows you to choose searchable fields. By clicking one of the choices, you can create a document that sorts the earmarks by state, organization name or federal department.
Abbreviations
Below are the abbreviation codes for the federal departments through which the earmarked funds are given out:
USDA – Agriculture
CNCS – Corporation for National and Community Service
ED – Education
ID – Independent Agencies
HHS – Health and Human Service
HUD – Housing and Urban Development
DOJ – Justice
DOL – Labor
