Earmarks

Youth Today’s Federal Youth Earmarks

Since fiscal 2001, Youth Today has been building databases of youth-related earmarks in each year’s federal budget. Those databases are available in searchable and sortable form to Youth Today subscribers.

There is no database for fiscal 2007, when the federal government had a moratorium on virtually all earmarks.

How to Use the Databases

The databases are in Excel. The listings are organized by state, and then alphabetically.

To search the database using other criteria, simply select “Data” on the top of the spreadsheet and select “Sort.” You will find a box that allows you to choose searchable fields. By clicking one of the choices, you can create a document that sorts the earmarks by state, organization name or federal department.

Abbreviations

Below are the abbreviation codes for the federal departments through which the earmarked funds are given out:

USDA – Agriculture

CNCS – Corporation for National and Community Service

ED – Education

ID – Independent Agencies

HHS – Health and Human Service

HUD – Housing and Urban Development

DOJ – Justice

DOL – Labor
