The Trans Liberation Basketball League, an Atlanta-based group for transgender and nonbinary athletes, kicked off its third season on Saturday, Sept. 28. The league started in summer 2023 and provides a safe space for transgender athletes — from youth to adults — to play sports without judgment.

Transgender athletes in sports are a controversial topic in politics right now, with Republicans across the nation, including Georgia, passing legislation banning transgender players from competing in mainstream sports.

Fresh Take Georgia’s Emma Buker attended the first game of the season to learn more about this unique league.
