THIS GRANT’S FOCUS: Youth Gardens, Education, Elementary School, Educator Support, Health, Nutrition
Deadline: Mar. 19, 2021
“Sage Garden Project awards select underserved public California elementary schools with funding for garden/cooking educators. The funded educator is required to teach garden and nutrition lessons to all students during the school day. The award includes a fully-equipped mobile cooking cart, Sage Garden Project curriculum, teacher training and ongoing support for educators. Sage Garden Project funds through parent groups (PTA / PTO and Educational Foundations) and School Garden Support Organizations (SGSOs). Multi-year award relationships are preferred – schools must reapply annually.
Elementary Schools:
- Year One: Schools which have not yet received our support may apply for the initial “Grow Package” which includes $15,000 toward hiring an educator, the fully-equipped mobile cooking cart, SGP curriculum, and expected attendance of educators at our three days summer.
- Years Two and Three: Schools may re-apply for continued $15,000 funding annually for a total of three years. Award will be based on successful program implementation and impact. Training is available for new and returning educators as needed.
- Years Four Plus: Currently, thanks to The Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation matching our funds, ten schools in their fourth and fifth year may qualify for sustaining funding of up to $10,000 annually. It is our hope that schools will reach self-sufficiency by sourcing other funding or garnering district support by the end of year five.
School Garden Support Organizations: School Garden Support Organizations that provide educators and guidance to underserviced California public elementary schools are able to apply directly. Organizations which align closely with our philosophy are encouraged to apply.”
