Robert Velasco II, the chief operating officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service, today was designated the interim chief executive officer of the agency. He replaces Patrick Corvington, whose last day in office was today.
Velasco joined CNCS in September 2010 from the Department of Health and Human Services, where he had served as director of management operations, Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals. He has spent more than 16 years in various executive branch positions.
For the past several months, Velasco has also served as CNCS’s chief of program operations.
The selection of Velasco was made by President Barack Obama, who said Velasco’s leadership would allow him to choose, nominate and have confirmed a permanent leader for CNCS.
