The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee approved the nomination of Patrick Corvington to serve as CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service today, presumably paving the way for his confirmation after the holidays.
Corvington is a senior associate in the Leadership Development Unit of the Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation, and serves as a senior adviser to Casey Executive Vice President Ralph Smith, who manages the day to day operations of the foundation.
Before joining Casey, Corvington was executive director of Washington-based Innovations Network, a small nonprofit that helps other nonprofits with planning and evaluation tools.
CNCS has been without a permanent leader for more than 10 months. President Barack Obama nominated Nike Vice President Maria Eitel for the CEO position last April, but she withdrew from consideration, citing health concerns.
