Giving by the nation’s more than 2,600 grant-making corporate foundations rose an estimated 6 percent in 2006, to a record $4.2 billion, according to the Foundation Center. Fifty-seven percent of those surveyed said they expect to give more this year.
A 16.5 percent increase in giving in 2005 reflected strong corporate profits and extra giving in response to the Gulf Coast hurricanes and the South Asian tsunami, but funding continued to grow in 2006, despite the completion of most giving related to those disasters. The top corporate grant maker of 2006 was New Jersey’s Aventis Pharmaceuticals Health Care Foundation, which gave more than $217.8 million. Free. 7 pages.
