“Most research on the impact of district leaders on student outcomes is conducted in large urban districts. Do findings from research in these large systems apply to leadership of small rural districts? Does leading a rural district look different than leading an urban system? This case study explored what leaders were doing and what conditions were present in a small, rural school district in Georgia when the student graduation rate for black students and economically disadvantaged students increased more than 15 percentage points from 2007 to 2010.”
