The National Youth Gang Center and the National Gang Center will merge to “leverage resources more effectively,” the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced.
The centers are housed at separate divisions of the DOJ Office of Justice Programs – the National Youth Gang Center at the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), and the National Gang Center at the Bureau of Justice Assistance. Both agencies have contracts with the same company, the Tallahassee, Fla.-based Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), to oversee the centers.
Both centers exist largely to provide training workshops and online resources for the law enforcement and public policy communities. IIR will merge the content of both websites into one new site.
The Office of Justice Programs did not return calls requesting information on cost savings or changes in operation that will result from the merger.
