Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects up to 7.5 percent of school children, according to this new study. Using a sample of more than 8,500 children from a Minnesota school district, the Mayo Clinic refined previous estimates of ADHD that ranged from 1 to 20 percent of school-aged children. The disorder can affect self-esteem, school performance and personal relationships, and can last into adulthood.
