THIS GRANT’S FOCUS: Youth Employment, Job/Career Training, Youth Development, Youth Leadership
Deadline: Jan. 31, 2022
“We’re building a network of Skills Friendly Cities across the United States and launching our Big Ideas, Bright Cities Challenge. We’re asking community organizations, city officials and business leaders to bring us their big ideas to make their city skills friendly. Together, we’ll create a community of practice of changemakers across cities nationwide – and award prizes and support to help the best ideas become reality.
Applicants that demonstrate innovative, sustainable, youth-focused ideas that increase skills and employment opportunities will be considered for invitation into a year-long community of practice where they will obtain additional guidance and support to launch or scale their big ideas as well as share resources and best practices.
The Skills Friendly City Initiative aims to:
(1) Define and Communicate Standards by providing clarity to cities on how to become “skills friendly.” The initiative outlines ten standards to create a “skills friendly” city, including critical activities and indicators to cultivate an ecosystem of elements – ranging from transportation and infrastructure to education and healthcare – that set its people up for success.
(2) Incentivize Excellence and Innovation by administering a national challenge that rewards innovations and aspirations. The competition will also encourage intra-city collaboration among city leadership, youth-serving organizations, businesses, and education systems.
(3) Foster a Cross-City Learning Community by creating opportunities for cross-city collaboration through a learning community to elevate best practices, enable joint problem solving, and promote collective success.”
