THIS GRANT’S FOCUS: COVID-19, Child Healthcare Access, Child Health, Schools, Telehealth
Deadline: Ongoing
“During this time of uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 virus, school districts throughout the nation have canceled classes, many of which are for an unspecified period. Many of the students and their family members will be experiencing mental healthcare issues, such as anxiety, depression, and fear requiring mental healthcare services in order to cope and become resilient.
SBHSN is accepting applications from Local Education Agencies (LEA), Charter School Management Companies, Public Schools, Charter Schools and Private Schools to implement Telehealth mental health program services for children impacted by short and long-term school closures. Telehealth is the distribution of health-related services and information via electronic information and telecommunication technologies. It allows long-distance patient and clinician contact, care, advice, reminders, education, intervention, monitoring, and remote admissions.
The purpose of this program is to promote a collaborative and integrated approach amongst the education and healthcare community to ensure students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally while confined to home learning mandates during the nation’s current national emergency. Funding will initially support the coordination of behavioral health services utilizing Telehealth technology by licensed mental health professionals who will also coordinate academic-support activities in collaboration with school district designated program personnel. Once schools reopen, the funding will support the placement of a mental health professional on school campuses. All funding must be used to expand access to quality behavioral healthcare to students with a history of attendance, behavior, and poor academic performance (Early Warning Indicators) during the last two academic years.”
