Debbie Dollar, a program manager for the Boys and Girls Club in Hogansville, Georgia, laments the fact that her program is staffed entirely by women — the club’s biggest challenge: They need more male mentors for the boys who make up half of their program youth.
“If a man comes in and he proves himself to this fifth-grade boy and the boy trusts him, he can help that boy make decisions all the way through college,” said Dollar, stressing the importance a fatherly influence can have on a young boy’s development.
