Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President/CEO is responsible for driving the mission and strategic direction, as well as for the fiscal health and structural soundness of the organization. The CEO oversees an annual budget of approximately $5.7 million and a total staff of more than 50 employees in addition to over 500 pro bono attorneys and volunteers. Ideally, the new CEO will possess a record of effective leadership as the CEO or in a #2 position, preferably in the area of child welfare, education policy, children’s advocacy, mental health, or social welfare. Candidates should have experience that demonstrates strategic, visionary and compelling leadership and successful management of dynamic organizations. Although the individual could come from a variety of fields and disciplines, it would be helpful if the CEO has experience that would enable him or her to provide leadership in a complex organization. The individual should have a track record of success in working at a high senior level where fundraising is a key activity. Successful experience in general and financial management as well as strategic planning and external relations, is also important. Candidates should have a range of well-developed skills that demonstrate the ability to conceptualize, plan, implement, administer, evaluate, and develop resources. It is preferred that candidates have experience in Board development and volunteer relations. Experience working with attorneys would be a plus.
