National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Coalition for Community Schools
Community schools are effective in increasing high school graduation rates, a new report by the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Coalition for Community Schools found. Community schools are schools that function as centers for the whole community and are open year-round. Each community school partners with local government, businesses, organizations and citizens with the intention of improving student learning by integrating academic, social, health, civic and community development.
The report details the stories of eight community schools across the country that are representative of some of the most ethnically diverse and poorest schools in the country. After two years, all community schools saw a significant increase in graduation rates and post-secondary success for students. Free, 28 pages. http://communityschools.org/CCSDocuments/Comm_HS.pdf.
