Carnegie UK Trust
From 1997 to 2007, the Trust’s Carnegie Young People Initiative in London researched and worked to combat “a world in which far too many young people are still alienated from their local community, distanced from society at large and disconnected from decisions made for and about them by adults.” The Trust funded more than 150 local youth participation projects, and created the first national center to promote youth participation in public policy and community decision-making throughout the United Kingdom.
This report reviews the successes and failures of the initiative, and offers ideas for sustaining and strengthening the voices of young people in decision-making. The release of the final report marks the launch in February of the Trust’s “Participation Works” initiative – a collaboration of agencies committed to children and young people’s participation.
